Duarte is a city that is rich in history located at the base of the beautiful San Gabriel Mountains. The city has a diverse population, friendly neighborhoods, excellent schools and a variety of cultural and recreational opportunities. Duarte was once a part of Route 66, the historic highway that linked Los Angeles and Chicago. That part of the highway is now Huntington Drive and is home to many businesses. It recently opened a new Fitness Center complete with an Olympic size pool. While it is home to approximately 22,000 people, the city is only about seven square miles wide, helping to make it a close-knit community. Students enrolled in K-12 are served by the Duarte Unified School District. For those in pursuit of a higher degree, nearby Universities include the University of Southern California and Claremont McKenna College. During the summer, residents turn out in force for the Family Concerts in the Park Series. Duarte is home to premier medical institutions like the City of Hope, a world-renowned cancer research and medical center and Santa Teresita Hospital, one of the finest in the region.
